On Line Webinar
FREE ONLINE WEBINAR!
Join U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark Coulson and Jeff Trueman, Esq., LL.M, for a discussion about subject matter expertise in mediation. While your mediator should have some awareness of the legal issues that are related to the dispute, does expertise of a technical nature or familiarity with juries in a particular venue really matter to the outcome of the mediation? Will your mediator learn from you and your client, or expect mediation participants to learn from him or her?
In addition, Judge Coulson and Jeff will discuss a few factors that drive movement toward resolution. Your questions will be welcome.
Registration is complimentary for all to attend.
A Zoom link will be e-mailed to all registrants before the online event.

The ever-increasing complexity of designs, materials, construction techniques, and the near ubiquitous tightening of schedules, strains the abilities of contractors and subcontractors. Making matters worse, the complexities and tightened schedules cause the interactions among the subcontractors to become more difficult to manage. These all compound to create the conditions for defects to occur in the construction that result in claims for water intrusion, failing facades, cracking windows, excessive settlements, and many more issues. This webinar presented by Forcon Structural Engineer, David Uliana, will cover how to utilize an Engineering Expert to help you before and during litigation.
Registration is complimentary for all to attend.

Now, more than ever, evidence and accident scene inspections must follow the CDC’s social distancing guidelines. Drones maximize what can be seen and minimize human contact. Live drone video taken can be a screen share to a Zoom meeting where interested parties far away can also participate in an inspection.
This presentation will introduce attendees to use of drones as inspection tools, explain how they work, give practical applications reliably used today as well as vivid examples of some of their uses. We will explore the different kinds of drones, their basic components, their operational capabilities, and the rules and regulations that must be followed in their operation. Attendees will understand the opportunity to use the map view and 3D model as demonstratives for the courtroom. Attendees will leave with a good understanding of the technology, its application as it applies to their specific professional efforts, costs and accessibility.
In this presentation, CED’s decades of experience will be distilled down to deliver a set of recommendations on how to select and work with engineering experts and understand the tools in their tool box to investigate claims arising from casualties such as fires, explosions, vehicular accidents, structural collapses, boiler machinery and equipment failures, gas and water leaks, and a variety of nature induced losses such as windstorms, earthquakes, floods, and hurricanes.

Approximately 90 percent of all accidents occur due to human error. In spite of their awareness of the risk, experience, training, and knowledge, people often make decisions and behave in ways that increase the risk of an accident or injury. In some cases, accidents occur due to an honest mistake. In other cases, people intentionally break from safe practices. These situations make human factors an essential assessment in a wide range of complex accidents involving commercial trucking, automobiles, railroads, aviation, utilities, construction, mining, oil and gas, manufacturing, medical devices, as well as consumer and commercial products.
Human Factors experts examine human performance under given circumstances, how they perceive risk and make decisions, and what motivates safe or unsafe behavior. This course will provide the audience an understanding of the various human factors issues that contribute to accident causation in cases related to transportation and product liability. Factors such as risk perception, gaze behavior, perception-response time, visibility and conspicuity, driver decision-making, fatigue, inattention, warning adequacy, and warning compliance, etc. will be discussed to help the audience understand key issues in such cases. Case studies will be used to help the audience understand how to use human factors experts.

StrategyHorse has created an innovative curriculum designed to engage and inspire the confidence and competency younger professionals need to lead their firms into the future. The curriculum will be presented in a series of interactive workshops designed specifically for promising lawyers in their mid-20s to mid-40s that are expected to secure the legacy of their firms. Each workshop has been carefully created with an understanding that real progress cannot happen without first revealing and directly addressing the motivation (cares, fears, wants) behind the behavior of the next generation of law firm leadership.
Associate and junior partner attorneys with at least 3 years’ experience that have demonstrated an interest in firm leadership and growth.

To become an effective practice group leader and/or equity partner of a firm, attorneys must be vision-oriented and possess the ability to approach growth in a strategic manner. Many younger lawyers are conditioned to think in a silo, only focusing on their immediate tasks and growing their own practice. For those who wish to enter the leadership queue, it is essential to be able to project, plan for, executive on and measure individual/practice group/firm goals, ensuring that all are properly aligned.
Each workshop will be approximately 2 hours in duration and be interactive in nature. Participants will receive a brief pre-workshop summary to help prepare them to get the most out of their participation.

This workshop will cover all aspects of personal branding. Participants will learn how to position themselves as either a Thought Leader or Center of Impact. We will discuss how to become a lawyer for the future by being relatable and articulating/addressing the needs of younger clients. The greatest opportunity for growth for any attorney is to become a Trusted Advisor to their clients and the community. We will delve into what this looks like and how to develop this reputation.
Each workshop will be approximately 2 hours in duration and be interactive in nature. Participants will receive a brief pre-workshop summary to help prepare them to get the most out of their participation.

This workshop will provide participants with the means to identify, understand and promote one’s individual value proposition, an essential component for effective leadership and business development. We will address the importance of self-advocacy as well as how each Rising Leader can both position themselves and others to be ambassadors for their personal brand and the brand of their firm. We will discuss the creation of stakeholders in the community, including peers and referral sources, and establish criteria for qualifying and cultivating “best clients”. Towards the end of the session the attorneys will understand how to apply what they’ve learned to their role in the recruitment and development of other younger lawyers.
Each workshop will be approximately 2 hours in duration and be interactive in nature. Participants will receive a brief pre-workshop summary to help prepare them to get the most out of their participation.

Fundraiser Supporting Delegate Bobby Zirkin
in his run for the Maryland State Senate (District 11)
1112 Bryn Mawr Road
Baltimore, Maryland 21210
Download directions, fact sheet and a registration
form (pdf)
Delegate Zirkin has been one of the General Assembly's most visible supporters
of medical malpractice reform legislation, introducing numerous medical
malpractice reform bills during the most recent legislative session and
playing a key role in last year's special session. Delegate Zirkin has
always had an open door for the MDC as we pursue our initiatives in Annapolis,
and has repeatedly sought MDC's input on key tort reform issues. He would
be a refreshing voice and an invaluable point of contact in the State
Senate.
